چکیده

INTRODUCTION Echinococcus granulosus infection may be transmitted between humans and animals. Hydatid disease refers to an infection with the parasite larva in humans, and echinococcosis is restricted to infection with the adult stage in carnivorous animals [1]. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) plays an important role in metabolism, physiology, immunology, and nutrients absorption of the cystic echinococcosis [2, 3]. ALP catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphate monoesters in an alkaline environment [4]. Alkaline and acid phosphatase activities have shown to reduce during the progression of the disease [5]. Diagnosis of hydatid disease is made by a combination of imaging techniques, clinical signs, serological tests, cyst fluid examination, and molecular techniques [6].

Assessment of Alkaline Phosphatase Activity in Hydatid Cyst Protoscolices and Liver Tissue as a Pathological Biomarker

Introduction: Hydatid cyst disease is caused by the protoscolices of Echinococcus granulosus. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzyme is required for metabolism, physiology, immunology, and nutrients absorption in parasite. The aim of this study was to compare the level of ALP activity (as a pathological biomarker) in hydatid cyst protoscolices (HCP) with that of sheep liver tissue and to determine t...

Cryptogenic hepatitis simulating cyst rupture and hydatid jaundice in a patient with preexisting asymptomatic hydatid cyst

Background: Rupture into the biliary ducts is the most frequent complication of hydatid liver disease. In endemic areas of Echinococcus granulosus, development of jaundice in a patient with liver cyst is initially suspected to have hydatid cyst. Case Presentation: A 48 year-old woman with history of asymptomatic hydatid liver cysts was admitted to the emergency department with right upper qu...

In vitro Scolicidal Effect of Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) Ethanolic Extract Against Protoscolices of Hydatid Cyst

Background: To prevent the recurrence of hydatid cysts after surgery, it is essential to use effective scolicidal agents. Most of these agents are not safe due to their undesired side effects. Recently, studies have been conducted to find natural scolicidal agents with more efficacies and low side effects. OBJECTIVES: In this study, the in vitro scolicidal effect of ethanolic extract of ginger ...
